What the EMBOSS for Windows v. 0.8 installer does:

• Creates the user-specified directory if it does not yet exist and fills it with the EMBOSS for Windows distribution.
• Modifies the emboss.ini file to reflect the installation directory.
• Sets an environment variable, EMBOSSWIN, pointing to the installation directory.
• Sets the EMBOSS_DATA environment variable for better Staden compatibility.
• Updates the PATH environment variable.
• Installs the Microsoft DLL msvcr71.dll into the system directory, if it's not there already.

The supplied uninstaller will undo all these steps but the last.
